CCLL COVID UPDATE

Dear CCLL Families:

The board at Canyon Country Little League wants to keep all of our families up to date and informed regarding our plans for the current little league season.  All of our families should know that your little league board is keeping in regular contact with each other to discuss how the current spread of the SARS-CoV-2 virus, which causes the COVID-19 disease, will continue to impact our families and the 2020 little league season.

As all of us know, this is a time of tremendous uncertainty and stress for our entire community.  Recently the Los Angeles County Superintendent of Schools, Debra Duardo, announced her recommendation to close all schools in Los Angeles County until at least May 5 in an effort to limit the community spread of the virus.  As many of you have probably seen from emails, school districts in Santa Clarita have complied with this recommendation.  Additionally, Little League International is currently recommending that spring baseball and softball activities be delayed until early May as well.

In accordance with these recommendations, our board has decided to continue the suspension of our season until early May.  Since this is a constantly evolving situation, we don't feel it's appropriate to put an exact date on when league activities will resume but we will continue to communicate with each other and with you, our little league community.  Our goal is to provide regular updates to the families (on the order of once per week), even if our plans remain stable.

You should know that all hope for a baseball experience for your sons and daughters is not yet lost.  Once it is safe to begin playing baseball and softball again, the board is currently intending to schedule a season that would last through the end of June.  It is our hope that even a limited baseball and softball season will provide a positive distraction and level of normalcy that is desperately needed in our community as our society is allowed to transition back to a more familiar routine.

Regarding the all-star tournament, Little League International is currently working through all possible scenarios for the 2020 Little League International Tournament and tournament eligibility requirements.   Given the uncertainty with our current season and Little League International's intention for the 2020 tournament, our board is hesitant to make any statements or decisions regarding the all-star tournament.  Our current priority is for our entire league to have as much of a positive baseball experience as is possible.

Please do not overwhelm board members with questions regarding this situation as they are all currently dealing with our own personal adjustments and issues, just the same as everyone else.  We intend to communicate information on a regular basis so as to alleviate your concerns.  Thank you so much for your patience and support.  We wish the best to each and every one of you and hope that your families are safe and well-provided for.
